where-am-i
Goal, what Claude is doing now, what waits on you and the next step, above the prompt.

where-am-i keeps a short recap of the session above the Claude Code prompt: the goal, what Claude is doing now, what it is waiting on you for and the next step. It is for long sessions where you look away and come back without the thread. /where asks for a longer recap.
What it does
- Up to three lines above the prompt: the goal, then now and next, then a yellow waiting-on-you line that only appears when Claude needs something from you. Each field is one sentence of at most 70 characters.
- While Claude works, “now” follows the main agent’s tool calls in plain words, such as reading a file, editing one, running a command or asking you a question. When the turn ends, it goes back to the recap.
- After each turn, Haiku rewrites the recap from the previous one, your last message, the turn’s tool calls and Claude’s reply. The goal stays put unless it clearly changed.
/whereprints up to six bullets built from the last 12 messages: the goal, what is done, what is happening, what waits on you and the next step.- When the same author’s next-steps mod is showing its suggested prompts, where-am-i leaves out its own next step.
Install
Needs Claude Code 2.1.287 or later.
claude plugin marketplace add hamzafer/claude-code-mods
claude plugin install where-am-i@claude-code-mods
If you already added another marketplace called claude-code-mods, such as arasovic/claude-code-mods or karanb192/claude-code-mods, this add clashes with it. Check with claude plugin marketplace list and run claude plugin marketplace remove claude-code-mods first.
Restart Claude Code. The band appears once your first turn ends.
How it works
The recap is written by a model, so the band has a cost. After every turn, in the background, the mod sends Haiku your last message (up to 1,500 characters), short labels of the turn’s tool calls and the first 2,500 characters of Claude’s reply, with a 300-token cap on the answer. Each /where sends the last 12 messages, up to 800 characters each, with a 500-token cap. Both are real requests that count toward your usage.
tool.call only observes: it notes a label for each call Claude makes and lets the call run untouched. The labels carry the Bash description or the command’s first 60 characters, file paths and search patterns, and they go into the Haiku request. Calls that other mods make in the background are skipped. The recap lives in memory and nothing is written to disk.
Limitations
- Before the first turn ends there is no recap, so the band draws nothing.
- If Haiku fails or answers in a shape the mod cannot read, the band keeps the previous recap.
