statuspane

Model, context, rate limits, cost and branch in a clickable card above the prompt.

Generic cover for statuspane, which has no screenshot yet: a placeholder terminal with the band above the prompt

statuspane draws a small card at the right edge, just above the Claude Code prompt, with the session’s model and effort, context use, 5-hour and 7-day rate limits, cost so far, directory and git branch. Where a statusLine is one line of text from a shell script, the card reads Claude Code’s own session figures, so there is no script to write, and its controls work with the mouse.

What it does

  • Model and effort. The model in use, whether Claude is working or idle, and the reasoning effort on a five-step gauge.
  • Context. A gauge with tokens used over the window, and a ⟲ compact button: press it, then confirm, and it runs /compact, after the turn if Claude is working.
  • Rate limits. 5-hour and 7-day use on small gauges, each with a countdown to its reset. Gauges turn to your theme’s warning color at 60% and its error color at 85% (50% and 80% for context).
  • GitHub CI. Two switches, off until you turn them on. One shows the latest Actions run of the current branch, checked every minute and every 10 seconds while it runs. The other follows the runs a git push or gh pr merge by Claude sets off, deploys included, until they finish. Each commit makes one row, such as ✓ deployed · 3m ago or ✗ test failed.
  • Progress rows. Up to five bars fed by your own scripts or by other mods.
  • Settings. ⚙ opens a page to switch each line on or off and set the bar width (6 to 24). One set of settings serves every session, and a change reaches the others within 2 seconds. ▾ hide folds the card to one button; /statuspane hides or shows it from the prompt.

A script adds a progress row by writing a JSON file to ~/.claude/statuspane/progress/<id>.json (STATUSPANE_PROGRESS_DIR moves the folder). percent is optional, ttl is how many seconds the row outlives the file’s last write (300 by default), and state is running, ok or error:

{ "label": "tests", "percent": 60, "text": "12/20", "ttl": 300, "state": "running" }

Write to a temporary file and rename it over the target, so the card never reads half a file; delete the file to drop the row. The repository’s examples/ folder has shell and Python helpers that do this. Another mod lists statuspane under dependencies in its plugin.json and calls $.statuspane.progress() and $.statuspane.clear().

For subagents, the same author’s agentpane lists each one with its tool calls and tokens in a side pane.

Install

Needs Claude Code 2.1.287 or later and a terminal at least 70 columns wide. The CI rows also need the GitHub CLI signed in (gh auth login).

claude plugin marketplace add xuanji86/claude-statuspane
claude plugin install statuspane@claude-statuspane

The card adds to your setup and replaces nothing: a configured statusLine keeps showing, so remove it from ~/.claude/settings.json if you want the card alone.

How it works

The model, usage, limits and cost come from Claude Code’s own session figures. Every 30 seconds and after each main-session turn, statuspane runs git branch --show-current and git remote get-url origin in the session’s directory. Every second it lists the progress folder and reads the 20 newest *.json files of 64 KB or less, strips control, bidi and zero-width characters from their text, cuts each field to length and never runs anything they contain.

It hooks tool.call for Bash only. After a command with git push or gh pr merge, and only with the push switch on, it reads the command and its output to find the repository and branches. With a CI switch on, it runs gh run list and gh run view (and gh pr view after a merge) through your own gh sign-in. That is the only network traffic; with both switches off, everything stays on your machine. The settings are kept in the plugin’s own store, which is how every session shares them.

Limitations

  • Terminal only. The desktop app shows no card, since it shows model, effort and context itself.
  • Below 70 columns the card draws nothing; /statuspane tells you so.
  • The - at the top right of the band is Claude Code’s own control: it hides the whole plugin panel above the prompt, and only its keybinding (ctrl+x ctrl+a by default) brings it back. Use ▾ hide to fold just the card.
