cc-dino

The offline T-rex above the prompt: jump cacti while Claude works, with a leaderboard.

Demo from the cc-dino repository, MIT license

cc-dino runs the browser’s offline dinosaur game above the Claude Code prompt. Run /dino, click the board, and jump cacti and duck birds while Claude works. When Claude finishes a turn the run pauses and the status line says so. Nothing here goes through the model, so playing costs no tokens. Set an X handle and every run goes to a shared leaderboard.

cc-dino: the T-rex jumping cacti and ducking a bird above the Claude Code prompt, then game over next to the leaderboard

What it does

  • The run: space or ↑ jumps, ↓ ducks, p pauses, r restarts. The world scrolls at 20 columns a second and reaches 44 by 2000 points. Birds show up after 500.
  • /dino auto opens the board whenever Claude starts a turn. The setting survives restarts.
  • /dino top prints the leaderboard, and t on the board shows it. /dino handle @you joins it under your X handle; h on the board edits it.
  • /dino demo plays a run by itself, for recordings. It is never sent anywhere.
  • Your best score is kept across sessions.

If you want more than one game above the prompt, cc-arcade bundles nine.

Install

Needs Claude Code 2.1.287 or later and an interactive terminal that reports the mouse, because the board takes the keyboard after a click.

claude plugin marketplace add giovaborgogno/cc-dino
claude plugin install cc-dino@cc-dino

Restart Claude Code and run /dino. Click the board to play. Esc gives the keyboard back to the prompt.

How it works

The board is a Client module on the drawing thread with its own 50 ms clock, keys and mouse. The hooks module listens to turn.start and turn.complete only to open the board in auto mode and to pause it when Claude is done. It reads no commands, prompts or files.

The leaderboard is a hosted service at cc-dino-leaderboard.vercel.app, reached with http.fetch. At every session start, and whenever you press t or run /dino top, the mod fetches the top list from it. That request carries nothing about you. Runs leave your machine only once you set a handle. From then on the mod asks the service for a ticket before each run (an id plus the seed the obstacles come from) and, when the run ends with a score above zero, posts your handle, the ticket, the board size and the frame of every jump and duck. The service replays those presses with the same game code to work out the score, so a made-up score cannot be posted. Handles are not verified, as the author states.

Without a handle, or while the service does not answer, the run stays on your machine and the game carries on. There is no setting that stops the top-list fetch short of uninstalling.

Locally, Claude Code’s plugin store holds three values: your best score, the auto flag and your handle. Saving an empty handle (Enter on an empty editor) leaves the leaderboard.

Limitations

  • Draws only in interactive sessions: nothing appears in claude -p or the VS Code extension’s chat panel. The author documents the terminal only; the Desktop app’s Code tab is untested.
  • One press of ↓ ducks for half a second, because a terminal sends no key-up. Hold the key to stay down.
  • The board fits 30 to 100 columns and 7 to 13 rows. The leaderboard beside the game-over screen needs at least 50 columns.
  • A run started while the service is unreachable has no ticket and is not sent, even with a handle set.
